MACS Facelift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension)
Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift or MACS plastic surgery, a lesser invasive facelift plastic surgery as compared to the traditional facelift allows for the correction of sagging facial features through a short, minimal incision, elevating them vertically by suspending them from above. It's a wonderful operation to rejuvenate the mid face, jowls, and neck with minimal inconvenience.
It is usually advised by the surgeons for men and women below 50 looking for facial rejuvenation without making it obvious that they have undergone "plastic surgery" to rejuvenate their face. A traditional facelift sometimes gives the wind swipe effect, which is completely avoided by the MACS lift.
The principle behind the MACS-Lift is that the superficial and deep facial layers are repositioned in a purely vertical fashion with no backward pull that can often look "operated" in appearance. It rejuvenates the mid-face without compromising the area of a future full-fledged face-lift.
It is advantageous for you to get the MACS facelift plastic surgery abroad in India as the cost of MCAS facelift surgery in India is much less as compared to the cost of MACS facelift in UK, USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand or any other western country- for the same quality of services and with equally skilled surgeons. You would thus get cheap MACS facelift plastic surgery abroad.
You would stay at the hospital/ clinic for two-three nights for facelift cosmetic surgery which is part of the surgical cost. Another week in India is required before you can fly back to your country. Thus, a total of eight to ten days are required for facelift overseas in India.
If other procedures such as brow lift, blepharoplasty or Rhinoplasty are done with MACS lift, you should plan to stay in India for about two weeks for the procedure.
The major differences between the MACS and traditional lift are:
- The MACS-lift uses a shorter scar and is restricted to the front of the ear and along the hairline on the sides instead of behind- used in the traditional face lift, which is much easier to hide. The results of the MACS-lift are also very natural
- The operation also takes less time, lasting 2.5 hours instead of the 3.5-4 hours that the traditional facelift requires and thus there is also a shorter recovery period.
The surgeons even with this small access can do as comprehensive a face-lift as with the older traditional incisions which are twice as long. So, MACS has become the procedure of choice of many aesthetic surgeons.
The procedure offers the same results as a traditional facelift but with many advantages.
MACS plastic surgery for face is much quicker and takes about two hours as compared to four to five hours that the conventional facelift takes. It can thus be done under local anesthesia with sedation whereas the conventional facelift requires general anesthesia only. The procedure requires less undermining the skin thus avoiding exposing the facial nerves. The procedure is thus less risky because the skin undermined is about 50% to that of traditional facelift.
The candidates for MACS facelift are those who have begun to see sagging and jowling of the face and neck, but do not require or not good candidates for conventional facelift for facial rejuvenation.
The MACS lift involves an incision restricted to the front of the ear stretching only from the earlobe to the hairline on the sides at the level of the top of the ear, which is usually covered by the side curls or the sideburns and is therefore virtually invisible once it settles.
Through that incision, the mid face is dissected right down to the jaw line and the upper neck skin is dissected by liposuction through a 4 mm incision under the chin. With the help of 2-3 strong loop sutures, the sagging tissues in the cheek are then plicated and lifted to be anchored to the deep tissues at the level of the hairline. This lifts the malar prominence back to a youthful position, tightens and smoothens the smile creases and lines at the corners of the mouth, improves the jowls, redefines the jaw line and tightens the sheet of muscles in the neck as well.
It gives as good a result as the comprehensive face-lift while keeping the incision and dissection of the sagging tissues to a minimum thereby almost eliminating the risks of injury to important nerves and not scarring the tissues too much.
Recovery & Results
Recovery after a MACS lift is much faster as compared to the traditional face lift. You would have mild pain and discomfort after the surgery which shall be controlled with pain medications. Swelling and bruising shall subside within a week after the procedure. The sutures are removed on the 7th day after the surgery.
You can return to normal activities in a week to ten days, but heavy exercises and rigorous work should wait for six weeks. Exposure to direct sun should be avoided for several weeks.
The final results would be visible after few weeks of the surgery, though you would be able to see the disappearance of wrinkles as soon as the swelling subsides. The MACS facelift surgery gives a fresh, rejuvenated and youthful appearance to your face. You can expect to shed about 15-20 years of age from your face. The results of facelift are long lasting, but will not stop the aging process.
